In 2005, after months of searching for a canine family member to fit in with our family, I came across one of the best kept secrets in the AKC, The Polish Lowland Sheepdog or Polski Owczarek Nizinny, otherwise know as a PON.
If you are interested in a shaggy, fun, entertaining, stubborn and loving companion to add to you family, then this breed is for you. I must tell you that they do require a dominant master or they will turn the tables and run your house. They are very active dogs and tend to be prima donnas at times. Their coat is hair, not fur and they are hypoallergenic. Did I mention that they do not shed? They do require weekly brushing. |

| A PON is a herding dog and believe me, they will herd you and everyone in your house from pets to children. Instinctively they have the need to protect. They are loyal to a fault, very good guardians of their flock. No matter what room I am in my house our Pon, Mia is always right there in sight. If I get up she gets up. Not a breed for you if you want the kind of dog just to stay in the corner all day and lay around. PONS are very involved in whatever you are doing. They don’t take a backseat to anything. Even when we are playing a board game Mia will be right there as if she would be up next to roll the dice! They are absolutely wonderful with children and are very protective of them as well. They like to investigate everything and you may find yourself going crazy at times thinking, I know I just had a pair of socks laying here, now where did they go? Chances are, they have been scooped up and hidden for a quick game of hide and seek. So, ask yourself, “Are you ready for your days to be filled with adventure and laughter from their funny and quirky PON antics?” My answer was yes! |
